JOB SUMMARY:
This important leadership role will oversee the Chamber’s entire membership process, including leading and managing the Member Engagement Manager, Membership Development Manager and Member Engagement Specialist. This role will manage and oversee the new member sales process, member renewal process, multiple committees, roundtables, and networking events.

This key role is tasked with elevating the Chamber’s retention efforts by engaging as many members as possible. Continuing to create and foster a member centric culture is paramount. This strategic thinking leader will need to be a listen first, speak second consensus building spark plug! This role is crucial to the Greater Kansas City Chamber’s membership growth, requiring a committed, passionate professional that excels at leading by example and collaboration. It is vitally important that this role collaborates across the entire organization.

The ideal individual will have five or more years of experience managing a Chamber of Commerce membership department or similarly structured membership-based association. That experience should include creating and managing a significant membership budget. The candidate should have experience hiring and managing a dynamic team and possess superior time management.

Proven success selling and retaining members is essential and should be accompanied by a passion for bettering the Kansas City region. A familiarity with the amazing work of our Greater Kansas City Chamber would be a plus.

This role will hit the ground running and immediately become a vital member of the Chamber team. The Membership Director will need to sell high level memberships, sponsorships and other affiliated benefits.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide department guidance/leadership to ensure member-centric principals are in place and membership goals are achieved.

Responsible for “upsells” of existing members (identifying companies that could invest more in our organization) and for sustaining a collaborative team environment to accomplish measurable growth.

Responsible for creating and implementing a robust engagement strategy, in conjunction with the Member Engagement Manager and the Member Engagement Specialist.

Responsible for new member sales, in conjunction with the Membership Development Manager.  Will work in tandem to ensure our new member sales are exceeding budget and delivering as much value as possible.

Responsible for producing top-notch member networking opportunities; including Neighborhood Networking, Business After Hours, Face 2 Face, Ribbon Cuttings.

Responsible for volunteer and committee management.

Responsible for speaking publicly on the Chamber’s behalf at networking events, ribbon cuttings and other community events, as needed.

Responsible for ensuring the accurate submission of member information into Chamber Master (database).

 
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a lead membership role for a chamber of commerce or similar nonprofit.
  • Working knowledge of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a management role, including overseeing staff, volunteers, fundraising and events.
  • Supervisory skills with the ability to plan, organize and delegate.
  • Promote teamwork and professionalism with the dynamic ability to manage in some areas while serving as an assistant in others.
  • Experience in sales, fundraising, budgeting and membership development.
  • Business and leadership savvy and high level of energy.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of event management software, Microsoft products, social media etc...
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, work under pressure with constant deadlines and multiple priorities, and coordinate projects in a complex organizational structure while maintaining optimal performance and producing quality output.
  • Must have superior time management skills.
  • Must be poised under pressure.
  • Must be a team player that works well in a changing environment.
  • Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, basic computer programs, and databases.
  • Significant lifting and carrying (event functions) must be able to lift approximately 40 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a licensed and operable vehicle.
